Adventure, intrigue, and comedy blend in the animated DuelMasters: The Good, the Bad and the Bolshack, the exciting story of a neophyte Kaijudo duelist named Shobu, the young son of a missing game master. When the mysterious Knight offers to take Shobu's raw talent at dueling and add ego-reducing discipline and wisdom, the boy agrees without knowing there are other, darker forces behind the scenes. Someone wants Shobu to become the greatest Kaijudo master of all--but toward what end is this film's big mystery. The script squeezes in as many Kaijudo duels (using cards that invoke powerful creatures and characters, as with Pokemon and YuGiOh) as possible into the story, several reinforcing Knight's opinion that Shobu has enormous potential but little polish or control. Shobu's friends Rekuta, Sayaki and Mimi add comic relief, particularly the latter, a cutie-pie with a serious punctuality problem. --Tom Keogh ...
